Children acquire language in various ways. Research has shown that listening to, singing and enjoying music is one of the most natural methods of language acquisition. The nine volumes in the series, New School Songs for Young and Old, are designed to facilitate English language learning from preschool to junior high by taking advantage of this link between music and natural learning. Each elementary and junior high book contains 15 songs and there are 12 songs per book at the kindergarten level, all performed by a team of Canadian musicians with a variety of singing styles, and recorded in a state-of-the-art music studio. The songs are written with a controlled vocabulary that grows progressively as the children develop their language skills. Each song tells a story about everyday life, and everyday experiences.
